Our tour of the Museum of Electricity in Christchuirch on 5th December was a great success. Over 30 dressed-up steampunks attended, plus a habndful of urchins.
Special thanks to Lisa for co-ordinating the visit and for providing cakes!

The League of Bournemouth Steampunks has been invited by the staff of the Russell-Cotes Museum and Art Gallery to support their Victorian Christmas themed event on Thursday 16th December.

You are invited to join us in supporting this event, for an evening of art appreciation, choral music and seasonal pleasantries.
Doors open 7pm
Tickets £5 / £4 in advance (ticket numbers are limited, so getting them in advance is recommended).
This is a fund raising event for possibly the last oasis of taste and tranquility in Bournemouth. The Museum is under threat of cut-backs from Bournemouth Council. Because of our good relationship with the museum staff, they have specifically invited steampunks to attend. Dress at your steamiest!
Members of this illustrious forum are cordially invited to join the League of Bournemouth Steampunks on an outing to the Museum of Electricity in Christchurch at 2pm on Sunday 5th December.

We are are fortunate to have negotiated the opportunity of a very special out-of-hours private visit to this unique museum, housed in an Edwardian power station.
Tour guides will be on hand to show you around the fully restored 1914 “Dreadnought” tram, Victorian/Edwardian generators, historic domestic appliances and much more. The visit will also include a fascinating and entertaining look at early electrical inventions in the Demonstration Room.
The cost of the visit will be dependent on the numbers attending. At the time of writing this we have about 20 peole on our Facebook event who have saifd they are coming, so expect to pay between £2 to £3.
Please let us know whether you are definitely attending or not, as we need to have a good idea of how large the group will be to allow the museum to put on the right staffing level. Attendees must ensure they are at the museum at 2pm prompt, for us all to meet our guides and begin the tour. Latecomers may not be able to gain admission
Please dress as befits a special steampunk outing. Members of the league will be at their steamiest.
It is anticipated that the visit will last for approximately 2 hours, after which we will take the opportunity to promenade to a local hostelry for some refreshments and exchange of pleasantries.
Hello Guys

Greetings to you all, and we sincerely hope your summer was as Steamy as you wished it to be!
Now that the Summer Season has drawn to it’s close and we re-group for the latter part of the year, we feel it is time to try and arrange a programme of events suitable for our inclinations.
The first event which we feel may appeal is the Mary Shelley Festival – www.maryshelley festival.com –

We appreciate that this is short notice and can only apologise for a total lack of awareness until this week. We have made contact with the lovely lady oranising the event who is very keen to have our support at any of the events happening over the three days.
There are several things which appeal to us, however, we are slightly double booked with a prior engagement over that weekend and will not know ourselves which events we can attend until nearer the time.
May I suggest that people who wish to attend a particular event start a post of their own and other people can add themselves as they go. Costumes will be most welcome. and it is a superb opportunity to support both local history and performance art.
A meeting at the Russel-Cotes.
Sunday October 10th 2010.

Please join us from 1pm at the Russel-Cotes to embrace the “ Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness” and perhaps plot our next forays into the world from a League perspective.
Cider With Rosie – Bournemouth Little Theatre Club

Monday 25th – Saturday 30th October 2010 7.45pm
Not Steampunk as such but definately period, hitting the end of WW1 with strong nostalgic overtones.
We will be there most evenings as Vicci is the set designer, but we have booked tickets to see the show as audience on Saturday night, and would love it if anyone else would like to attend.

We are most welcome to attend in costume and add to the ambience much as we did last year.
An update for all you theatrical types who might fancy rocking up to be extras in this film…….
The dates when extras will be required are :
Tuesday 6th July
Wednesday 7th July
And likely times will be 9am – 6 / 6.45 pm.
Now, Amin, the charming director, would dearly like people to come on the Monday evening and camp at a site approximately 10 minutes from the location for both days if possible, or turn up at about 9am on Tuesday – there will be time to get into ones finery on arrival.
This is a voluntary exercise, in order to support the students, and a chance to be immortalized on “celluloid” in your favourite costume(s). There will also be a high calibre photographer on set from whom one can obtain stills as a memento.
The cut off date for registering intent to attend is by the end of Monday 28th June.
I appreciate that this is short notice – I am told that this is typical for a student film – but the team do want to do justice to the genre / lifestyle, and it would also be fun for anyone who could manage it.
Please contact Vanessa directly through the Facebook group : http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/group.php?gid=118736638149843 for more information, and note that there should be a working website in the very near future.
Many thanks
Many Thanks to Engineer for the videos and you can see them on you tube here
A Rally Cry to The League to Support a Student Film !!
Good evening my dears, hope the typically British changeable weather finds you all well.
Yesterday Neil and I had the pleasure of meeting the production team of a student film in the making called “Tick Tock”, which is “A Steampunk creepy short film”, at Bournemouth University.
Vanessa, the very charming producer had emailed me to see if anyone would like to help them in their endeavours, and during the course of the meeting it became clear that members of the League might be suitable extras, may have props and accessories that could be useful, or may like to make donation to support a Steamy cause. As a student production it is of course tightly budgeted, so the concepts of beg and borrow are top of the list.
Their Facebook group is here :
http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/group.php?gid=118736638149843
And I would ask everyone to check it out and join as group members to show support.
Filming is happening at the South Devon Railways in early July, and I would ask anyone who would like to offer more concrete support to contact Vanessa directly through the Facebook group in order to keep things simple for them, rather than trying to organise it from a League perspective.
I do have a Production pack as it stands with some details regarding props required, and I believe that a more definite list is being prepared.
I have read the script and think it is very good, and will translate beautifully to film. The production team have been thoroughly researching and we have pointed them in other directions that may be helpful as well.
So, if you feel you can step up to the plate, your Student Film Makers Need You!!
Many thanks!!!
